Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Smith holds Ph.D and M.M. degrees in music theory from The Florida State University, and a B.M. in music theory and composition from Illinois State University. Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor of music theory at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY where she teaches courses in Sight Singing, Music Theory, Form & Analysis, and 20th Century Analysis. She has taught both Freshman and Sophomore music courses at The Florida State University. Her research has been presented at numerous conferences including the Society for Music Theory, International Ernst von Dohnányi Festival with the annual meeting of Music Theory Southeast, and the South Central Society for Music Theory. Her dissertation “Musical Narrative in Three American One-Act Operas with Libretti by Gian Carlo Menotti: A Hand of Bridge, The Telephone, and Introductions and Good-Byes” is available here.
